Acne is a disorder of the skin’s sebaceous (oil) glands that affects over 80% of the population aged 14-30.
IPL is a non-invasive alternative treatment to antibiotics and roaccutane. During and following the IPL treatment the bacteria is destroyed and the inflammation of the sebaceous gland is reduced and activity limited. This can result in long term remission from acne. Successful treatment often incorporates the use of a chemical peel prior to the IPL treatment

The Intense Pulsed Light system releases yellow, green and red light that is emitted in a series of short pulses. The yellow/green light destroys the bacteria (P.acnes) that live in the skin and cause acne (this is how natural sunlight helps to improve acne), while the red light directly targets the overactive sebaceous glands. This targeted heating deep in the skin causes shrinkage of the inflamed sebaceous glands (preventing their over-production of sebum) and stimulates collagen production, boosting the healing process to reduce scarring and improve skin tone.

A full medical history, including any medication (prescribed, herbal or homeopathic) that you are on, is taken by the medical practitioner. Then a comprehensive treatment programme is written up for your exact needs.

A test patch is needed 24 hours before a full treatment can be carried out. During the treatment the area is prepared and then the applicator head is applied and moved across the area in steps to ensure full coverage. The applicator head is large therefore treatments can be carried out quickly.

A specific number of treatments cannot be guaranteed as acne is a complicated condition with physiological and psychological components. However, most clients achieve a significant reduction in the severity of active lesions, lessening the inflammation and frequency of outbreaks.

IPL system heats up the lower layers of the skin producing collagen that stimulates a healing response. This acts as a new foundation for the skin, reducing scarring and improving skin tone. It is unlikely that IPL can 'remove' the scar but it may improve it's appearance significantly.
